The following will give you an idea of what to expect on your visit, and items you will need to bring. Directions to Edisto are easy. Follow Highway 17 (Coastal Highway) South from Charleston about 20 miles. Look for Highway 174 sign, which will lead directly to Edisto Island. Turn right at the beach and travel one mile to "A FISH CALLED WANDA." (405 Palmetto Blvd.) The home has recently been redecorated with new window treatments, furniture and a surround sound system.
The upstairs has three bedrooms. A Carolina Room is up front with an unobstructed view of the ocean. In this room is a king size bed. Have coffee at the table and watch the sunrise, or open the windows to hear the surf breaking on shore. This is our favorite room where we stay on our trips to Edisto Beach. The middle bedroom has a queen size bed and is adjacent to the bathroom. The back bedroom also has a queen size bed. It opens onto a 16' x 20' deck with a great view of the ocean, and features a full compliment of deck furniture. Here, too, you may enjoy breakfast or evening cocktails while listening to the waves of the ocean. Access to the beach is less than 100' from the house. Two, undeveloped lots across street provides a panoramic view of the ocean.
The upstairs kitchen is fully furnished with all appliances, including a dishwasher, microwave, washer/dryer, cooking utensils and coffee maker. The large, built-in bar seats up to ten where you can enjoy meals, playing cards or simply entertaining friends and family. The bathroom has a shower and all bedrooms are fully furnished with mirrors, dressers and closets. The living room area has a sofa, love seat and cocktail table. The dining area seats six at the table, or eight if you like closeness. Of course there is always the ocean view as you dine.
The downstairs has three bedrooms, one bath and a fully equipped kitchen as well as a large Den area. The front bedroom has a Queen size bed, the middle bedroom, a king size bed, and the back bedroom, a queen size bed along with double bunk beds. All bedrooms are fully furnished with mirrors, dressers and closets. The kitchen is the same as upstairs, except there is no dishwasher or washer/dryer. Each floor has its own separate central heating and air system as well as Dish TV, VCR and DVD. The large build-in bar allows seating for your meals and entertaining. The living/dining area has a new sofa, love seat, cocktail table and seating for six at the dining table.
There is an enclosed outside shower with hot and cold water, charcoal grills, and a picnic table. The home can be opened to allow total use of both floors with stairs, or closed for rental of one floor. For your vacation at "A FISH CALLED WANDA," you will need linens for appropriate bed sizes, towels, paper products, food, detergents, trash liners, beach towels and perhaps other beach furniture if you choose. A Piggly Wiggly grocery store is only four blocks away.
New for the 2009 rental season we have added unlimited local and long distance calling anywhere in the US. Also high speed wireless Internet service if you wish to bring your laptop . Lastly we added the Dish Network System with over 200 channels for you to choose from. We hope these addition will make your stay more pleasant at A Fish Called Wanda.
Peak season is May 24th to August 23rd, but Edisto is at its best in the off-season and this is when I can give much better rates. This is alsp when it returns to the non-commercialized, laid back ways. Restaurant lines are non-existent with a near deserted beach, reminiscent of the vacations during the 50s and 60s. If it's relaxing on a quiet beach, free of all traffic, cell phones (some don't work!!), and day-to-day stress, then "A FISH CALLED WANDA" at Edisto Beach is where you want to be. Come, enjoy the island that has maintained its Low-Country charm, and where generations of islanders have kept its pristine beauty for all to enjoy.
